Construction Crew

Volunteers on the construction crew will set up and tear down MATRIX VIllage, the Start & Finish lines, the check points and the stage camps.

Registration Administrators

Volunteers at the Race Registration Office will be the first to meet and welcome racers to Yellowknife. Registration Administrators will ensure that all racers, volunteers and media meet the technical and administrative requirements to participate in the Rock and Ice Ultra.

Volunteers are required on Thursday March 20th, Friday March 21st and Saturday March 22.

Check Point & Remote Check Point Managers 

Volunteers at the check points (CPs) are key to the operation and success of the Rock and Ice Ultra. Check Point Managers may choose to be posted at one or more of the many CPs on route and will be responsible for:

     1. recording the times & places or racers

     2. distributing water & food to racers

     3. evaluating and reporting the general condition of racers

     4. communicating with the SAR team

     5. enforcing the rules and faulting racers who break the rules

     6. encouraging racers with positive, happy energy!

Depending on the location of the CP, managers may be required for a minimum of half a day to a maximum of 36 hours at the remote CPs.

Stage Camp Managers

Volunteers at the five Stage Camps (SCs) are required to assist in the construction, operation and tear down of the camps. SC managers will camp over night with the racers, media and other volunteers; tent shelter will be provided.

Guides

Guides are required to be out in front of the first racer at all times. Guides will: 

            1. ensure the route is well marked

            2. there are no unexpected dangers on the route

            3. the CP and SC managers are prepared for the racer's arrival

            4. communicate with the SAR Team

Runners

Two Runners are required to patrol the route between the guides and the sweepers. Runners will:

    

     1. ensure the racers stay on course

     2. monitor the general condition of racers

     3. communicate with the SAR Team

     4. provide distance and route condition information to racers

     5. enforce the race rules and fault racers who break the rules

Sweepers

Two Sweepers are required to follow the last racers at all times. Sweepers will:

    

     1. ensure the safety of the slowest racers

     2. communicate with the SAR Team

     3. close the course (remove route markers and collect any litter)

Trouble Shooters

Trouble shooters are required for the duration of the race. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

     1. bringing lost or forgotten items out to check points or stage camps

     2. looking after racers who drop out - transporting them back to town

     3. general last minute, unscheduled, unexpected issues that may arise anytime

Trouble shooters can choose to be on call on any given day at any given hours they choose.
