Online Application FAQ's

How do I apply to become a volunteer?

Go to the Volunteer tab in the navigation pane on our web site and click ‘On Line Application’. You will be directed to the online registration system. The form will guide you through the process to identify your interest and availability times.

Do I need an e-mail address to register?

No. If you do not have access to an email account, please contact the Race Director at 867.444.0389

How will I know you have received the completed application form?

Upon submission of your application, you will be notified by e-mail that your application has been received and you will automatically be included on our Volunteer Newsletter.

I receive an error message when I try to submit my on-line application, what should I do?

Scroll to the top of the application page and look for a warning message directing your attention to a potential problem and/or review your application for any missing required fields (noted in red font). After updating changes, click on the “Submit Application” button.

Will my personal information be stored securely?

Yes. Northern Canadian Adventure Racing will keep all personal information confidential and secure.

We will only use the information to assign you as a volunteer; to accredit you as a volunteer and to communicate with you about the Event and related activities.

Can I edit my application form on-line?

No. If you wish to make changes to your online application please email volunteers@rockandiceultra.com or simply go through the application process again.

Is there a deadline for applying?

No. But it is to your advantage to submit your application as early as possible so that we can assign you to the volunteer position based on your preferences. We may choose a cut-off date at a later time once we find we have enough volunteers to fill all required positions.

Who do I call if I am having difficulties completing the application form?

General FAQ's

How do I know what shift times I am scheduled for?
The Rock and Ice Volunteer Coordinator should have contacted you to let you know what times and days you are scheduled to work and at what locations. If you cannot get in touch with The Rock and Ice Volunteer Coordinator, please contact Headquarters at Arctic Response.


What do I do if I can’t make my shift or if I will be late?

Phone Headquarters at Arctic Response and inform them of your situation and the time and exact location of your shift.

Can I bring my kids?
Yes! children and youth are permitted to accompany you during your shift.
If you wish to volunteer with your children it should be pre-arranged with the Volunteer Coordinator in advance. All person involved with the Rock and Ice Ultra need to complete and submit a CARA Waiver, irrelevant of age.


Do I get a break?
There will not be scheduled breaks. At no time can a CP go unmanaged. If you require a break please ensure that there is someone there to continue with the important duties of the CP.

Do I receive meals?
Indirectly. Volunteers are asked to arrange their own meals and drinks for the duration of their shift. Please keep all relevant receipts and submit them to the Race Director at the end of the event for reimbursement; to a maximum of $25 per day per volunteer.

Can I use my personal cell phone during my shift?
You are encouraged to bring your personal cell phone with you during your shift so friends and family can contact you in case of an emergency and race organizers may contact you for information.

Volunteer Recognition
It is important to race organizers that all volunteers are thanked for their hard work and commitment to the Rock and Ice Ultra. We realize our dependence on the tremendous efforts made by volunteers and, therefore, have established ways to recognize and thank volunteers.


Each volunteer will receive:


- an official Rock and Ice toque

- an official Rock and Ice long sleeve shirt; sponsored by The North Face

-an invitation to the Pasta Extravaganza
- an invitation to the legendary Bacardi on Ice wrap up party.

Media Relation FAQ's

We will have reporters from around the world reporting daily on results, athlete profiles, records, schedules, etc. The Media and Results Center will be located at Race Headquarters at Arctic Response. Media should be directed to a designated individual at HQ.


Volunteers may be asked a number of questions by a variety of people. We want you to be a good ambassador and be as helpful as possible. However, should the media ask you a question while on duty, it is important to know what you can and cannot say to the media.


What you can talk to the media about:


• Why you volunteered and the role you play as a volunteer;
• Your enjoyment of the event; and
• Any practical information about the event.


What you should not talk to the media about:


• The financial arrangements between the event and sponsors;
• Personal information about the participants, volunteers, and/or Rock and Ice Ultra  / Arctic Response staff and members;
• Security or emergency issues;
• Noise or crowd issues;
• Incidents involving participants, visitors, families of our community, or volunteers; and
• any aspect of the Event that you do not have detailed or accurate information about.
